Next Week on About D.C.

My topic for my main posts next week is Eating at the Smithsonian. Each day I will post about the places to eat at a particular Smithsonian Museum in D.C.

This Weekend in D.C.: August 31-September 3

With it being Labor Day holiday weekend I decided to include Monday as part of the weekend this week.


Family Fun Sunday: In Faberge’s Workshop
: This is a craft activity to make a picture frame at Hillwood Museum. Learn about the Russian jewelers style and take an audio tour special for kids through the art collection.

Washington Nationals: The Nationals are in town this weekend playing against the San Francisco Giants. The game is at 7:05pm on Friday, 7:05pm on Saturday, and 1:35pm on Sunday. They are giving away Theodore Roosevelt Bobble Heads at Saturday’s game. They are also playing the Florida Marlins on Monday at 1:05pm.

Smithsonian Art Galleries: Sackler Gallery

The Sackler Gallery is located at 1050 Independence Ave SW. It is open from 10am to 5:30pm everyday. It is closed on Christmas. The focus of this art gallery is Asian art. The exhibits change quite regularly here as they do at most of the Smithsonian art galleries, thus it is enjoyable to visit regularly to see new things. Smithsonian Art Galleries: Freer Gallery of Art

The Freer Gallery is located at Jefferson and 12th Street SW. It is open from 10am to 5:30pm everyday. It is closed on Christmas. The focus of this art gallery is Asian art. Smithsonian Art Galleries: Renwick Gallery

The Renwick Gallery is located at Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street. The nearest Metro stops are Farragut West and Farragut North. It is open from 10am to 5:30pm except on December 25 when it is closed. The Renwick Gallery displays American crafts and decorative arts dating from the 19th century to the present. Smithsonian Art Galleries: National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery is located at 8th street and F street. It is nearby the Gallery Chinatown Metro stop. The gallery is open daily from 11:30am to 7pm. The only day of the year that it is closed is December 25. This gallery is full of amazing portraits of famous people from George Washington to Shaq.
