New Exhibit: Wine, Worship and Sacrifice: The Golden Graves of Ancient Vani

Friday, November 30th, 2007

This exhibit opens tomorrow (December 1st, 2007) at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. The
Wine, Worship and Sacrifice: The Golden Graves of Ancient Vani exhibit displays the contents found in a grave in Ancient Vani. This relates to the archaeology of Colchis, which is featured in the famous Greek myth about Jason and the Golden Fleece. Items on display include Greek and Persian items along with the Colchian items. This exhibit will surely be of interest to those interested in Ancient Greece and ancient cultures in general. It also looks like it gives an unique look at how an ancient culture was influenced by the other surrounding cultures such as the Greeks, Persians, and Egyptians. Plus it is a great indoor activity for the upcoming cold winter weather.

News Article: White House Christmas Tree Goes Green

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

The article in the home section of the Washington Post caught my eye today because the headline was “The Greening of Christmas.” Not only was the going green advice on making your holiday more environmentaly friendly interesting, but it also mentioned how the White House is going green with its Christmas decor. For one the lights on the National Christmas Tree will be LED lights, which are way more energy efficient than the previously used incandescent ones. Additionally, the White House will save energy by turning off all the holiday lights in the evening after official events end, although they will leave the lights on the tree in the blue room on. I read the article in the paper edition of the newspaper, but hopefully you can also find it on the Washington Post’s website if you want to learn about how to make your holiday more green from wrapping presents to what kind of tree is most environmentaly friendly.

Special Topic Tuesday: Redskins Player Killed

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Yesterday Redskins safety Sean Taylor was shot in his home in Miami, Florida. Last night he was still in critical condition, but was considered to be responsive as he squeezed the doctor’s hand and made some facial expressions on the doctor’s request. He did not recover and it the Associated Press just released news that he has died. Here is link to yesterdays article on the incident.
