National Air and Space Museum: Treasures of American History
This exhibit is a temporary one at the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall. It is not really much related (if at all) to air and space, as it is the temporary home of some items that normally belongs at the Museum of American History. It is great that visitors coming now can still see these great artifacts even though the home museum is closed Continue reading for more about specific artifacts.
Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers: The slippers that Dorothy (Judy Garland) wore in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. They are pretty stunning to actually see in person. Probably one of the more popular artifact in the collection.
Edison Lightbulb: This lightbulb was used in the first public showing of how his new invention worked. It most definitely changed the world and allowed for continued progress towards the technology we use today.
Circa 1903 Crayola Crayons: A box of Crayola’s made in the early years of the company. I found it interesting to learn that Crayola is derived from the French words for oily chalk.
Abraham Lincoln’s Top Hat: The top hot he was wearing the night he was assassinated.
